As the wellness coordinator at The Boston Conservatory, Laurie
has made it her goal to learn about the health needs of her unique
college population of performing artists; she has developed a campus-wide wellness
philosophy that addresses these needs and encourages faculty members to become
invested in the wellness of their students. She understands that involving students in
their own health education has immense benefits, and this understanding led her to
create a peer wellness education group that plans and hosts numerous programs and
events. She also consults one-on-one with students who want to discuss health topics
or concerns. Laurie, recognizing the challenges of being the lone campus health educator,
created the Boston Area Solo Health Educators group to provide a resource
for others in the same position in the field. Colleagues recognize her for her creative,
energetic approach to health education and for the significant contributions she has
made to her campus through her involvement in her profession.
