ACHF, through the Kathy Mac Scholar Fund, increases opportunities for nurses and nurse practitioners to attend the ACHA Annual Meeting. This scholarship offers funding to partially offset meeting registration, hotel and travel expenses for one nurse or nurse practitioner who has never been to an ACHA meeting before.
Monique A. Motte, RN, BSN, of Barry University shares her thoughts on how being the 2022 Kathy Mac Nurse Scholar Travel Funding Recipient made an impact.
Attending the ACHA conference for the first time in 2022 provided me with an amazing opportunity for personal growth. I have been working as a registered nurse for over 40 years in multiple and diverse areas of nursing. Never have I seen such a sharing of information amongst colleagues and professionals.
ACHA truly wants you to succeed in your endeavors to promote health and wellness amongst college students. I was able to network with other healthcare providers and find simple solutions to chronic issues. I met new people who presented a different perspective on issues I thought I was well acquainted with. I was able to attend sessions to delve more deeply into common basic problems such as rashes and medication issues that you commonly find in a college age population. And ultimately, I was able to meet Gary MacLachlan (Kathy MacLachlan’s spouse) and his wonderful family, the benefactors of the Kathy Mac Nurse Scholar Travel Fund. This has been an extraordinary experience for me due to more than just the obvious. It also allowed me to stay strong and focused on the goal of attending the ACHA conference while I was undergoing radiation therapy for a newly diagnosed brain tumor.
I plan on implementing techniques and strategies I have learned at ACHA into my daily practice and will continue to broaden my knowledge base to promote optimal wellness to our students.
I heartfully thank ACHF for the opportunity to enable me to be of assistance to others and ultimately to improve the quality of the care I provide to my patients.
